Kitchener Housing has two types of rental units — some of our tenants pay market rent and others pay rent geared to income or subsidized rent. The process to apply for housing is different for each type of unit.
Market Rent Housing
To apply for Market Rent housing, you apply directly to Kitchener Housing. You can download the application form (PDF HERE) here.
Approximately thirty (30) percent of Kitchener Housing units are rented at Market Rent. This means the applicants applying for these units should expect to pay rent that is based on our expected costs and comparable to similar rents in the private market place.
Rent Geared to Income (RGI) or Subsidized Housing
You CAN NOT apply for RGI housing through Kitchener Housing directly. To apply for RGI or subsidized rental housing, you must apply through the Region of Waterloo Community Housing Access Centre. You can print an application by clicking (PDF HERE) here and deliver or mail the application to the Community Housing Access Centre as indicated on the
Market rent units are advertised and applications are only taken at that time
Consider having a page on our website that shows market units available and have a hyperlink to this page here.
